Checking channel age

The YouTube Channel Age Checker helps you find when a YouTube channel was created and calculates how old the channel is in years, months, and days. Enter a channel URL, @handle, or channel ID, then click Check Channel Age to view the available channel information.

A successful lookup shows the channel name, unique channel ID, calculated channel age, and creation timestamp. This is useful when you want to answer a simple question such as "How old is this YouTube channel?" without manually searching through the channel's history.

How to Check a YouTube Channel's Age

  1. Enter a YouTube channel URL, @handle, or raw channel ID.
  2. Click Check Channel Age.
  3. Review the channel name and channel ID returned by the tool.
  4. Look at Channel Age for the calculated age in years, months, and days.
  5. Check Creation Date for the channel creation timestamp.
  6. Use Reset when you want to check another channel.

For example, during live testing with @MrBeast, the tool identified the channel and displayed its creation timestamp as February 20, 2012, along with a calculated age based on that date.

What Can You Enter in the Channel Age Checker?

The current tool accepts several ways of identifying a YouTube channel. During testing, all three of the following input types worked:

  • Full channel URL: For example, https://www.youtube.com/@MrBeast
  • YouTube handle: For example, @MrBeast
  • Channel ID: The unique ID beginning with UC for a standard YouTube channel.

If you only need to identify the unique ID behind a channel URL or handle, you can also use SanishTech's YouTube Channel ID Finder.

What Does a YouTube Channel Creation Date Mean?

YouTube's official Data API documentation defines the channel resource's snippet.publishedAt property as the date and time the channel was created. The value is represented using an ISO 8601 date and time format.

That makes the creation timestamp different from the date of a channel's first upload. Someone can create a channel and wait days, months, or even years before publishing a video. Likewise, changing a channel's visible name does not mean the channel itself was newly created.

You can read the definition directly in the YouTube Data API channel documentation.

YouTube Channel Age vs. YouTube Account Age

Searches such as "YouTube account age" and "when was my YouTube account created" can mean two different things. This tool is specifically designed to check a YouTube channel's creation date. It does not tell you when the person's underlying Google account was originally registered.

If your goal is to find how old your YouTube channel is, enter your own channel URL, @handle, or channel ID. The creation timestamp returned for the channel can then be used to calculate its age.

Does an Older YouTube Channel Rank Better?

Channel age can provide historical context, but it should not be treated as a YouTube SEO score or proof that one channel is stronger than another. YouTube's public explanation of its search system focuses on relevance, engagement, and quality. It does not identify channel age as a standalone search-ranking factor.

A channel created in 2012 can therefore rank below a much newer channel when the newer content better satisfies a particular search. Channel age tells you how long the channel has existed, not how YouTube will rank its videos.

Age also does not prove that a channel is trustworthy, active, popular, or suitable for a collaboration. If you are researching a creator, consider recent uploads, audience engagement, content quality, and other relevant information alongside the creation date.

Understanding Unexpected Channel Age Results

A successful lookup can return a precise-looking date and time, but that does not mean every result should be accepted without question. Channel resolution or the available source data can occasionally produce an obviously implausible result.

If a creation date looks wrong, retry the lookup using the full channel URL or raw channel ID. For important research or reporting, verify unusual results independently rather than relying on the calculated age as your only source.

If the handle cannot be resolved, the tool may instead show a message such as Channel not found for this handle. Double-check the handle or try the channel's direct URL or ID.

What Information Does the Tool Return?

When a channel lookup succeeds, the results table can include:

  • Channel Name: The name associated with the resolved channel.
  • Channel ID: The channel's unique YouTube identifier.
  • Channel Age: The elapsed time from the returned creation date, displayed in years, months, and days.
  • Creation Date: The returned channel creation timestamp.

The result view also displays Copy Result and Download JSON controls. If you want to inspect additional publicly available channel information, SanishTech's YouTube Data Viewer provides a broader channel-data lookup.

Frequently Asked Questions About YouTube Channel Age Checker

What does the YouTube Channel Age Checker show?

It shows the resolved channel name, channel ID, calculated age in years, months, and days, and the channel creation timestamp when a lookup succeeds.

What can I enter into the YouTube Channel Age Checker?

You can enter a full YouTube channel URL, an @handle, or a raw channel ID. All three input formats worked during live testing.

How do I check when a YouTube channel was created?

Enter the channel URL, @handle, or channel ID and click Check Channel Age. The Creation Date field shows the returned channel creation timestamp.

Is YouTube channel age the same as YouTube account age?

Not necessarily. This tool checks a YouTube channel's creation timestamp. It does not tell you when the person's underlying Google account was created.

Can I check the age of my own YouTube channel?

Yes. Enter your channel URL, @handle, or channel ID. You do not need to sign in to YouTube to run the current lookup.

Do I need a YouTube login or API key?

No. The current tool interface does not ask you to sign in to YouTube or provide your own API key before checking a channel.

Can I copy or download the channel age result?

After a successful lookup, the current result view displays Copy Result and Download JSON controls below the channel information.

Why does the tool say a YouTube channel was not found?

The channel identifier may be incorrect or may not resolve successfully. Check the spelling of the handle or try the full channel URL or raw channel ID instead.

Does an older YouTube channel rank better?

YouTube does not identify channel age as a standalone search-ranking factor in its public guidance. Its search documentation emphasizes relevance, engagement, and quality, so channel age should be treated as historical context rather than a ranking score.

What should I do if the channel creation date looks wrong?

Retry the lookup using the full channel URL or raw channel ID. If the date is obviously implausible, verify it independently and do not use the calculated channel age as your only source.
