The YouTube Timestamp Link Generator creates a shareable link that opens a video at a specific time. Paste a standard YouTube watch URL, enter the required minutes and seconds, and the tool converts that time into seconds before adding it to the link.

For example, entering 2 minutes and 30 seconds produces a link with &t=150. Anyone opening the link is directed to the selected point instead of being asked to find it manually.

What the YouTube Timestamp Link Generator Does

A timestamped YouTube link is a regular video link with an additional start-time parameter. The generator handles the seconds calculation and URL formatting for you.

  • Minutes and seconds input: Choose where the video should start.
  • Automatic conversion: Converts the entered time into total seconds.
  • Timestamp URL: Adds the calculated time using the &t= parameter.
  • Copy control: Copies the generated URL to your clipboard.
  • Testable result: Opens the generated link in a new browser tab.
  • Repeatable workflow: Generate different start-time links for the same video.
  • No account connection: The tool does not require access to your YouTube channel.

The generator creates a start-time link only. It does not download the video, edit its content, create a clip or change the original upload.

How to Create a YouTube Link at a Specific Time

  1. Copy the standard watch URL: Use a link containing youtube.com/watch?v=.
  2. Paste the URL: Add it to the Video URL field.
  3. Enter the minutes: Type the number of complete minutes before the required moment.
  4. Enter the seconds: Use a value from 0 to 59 for the remaining seconds.
  5. Click Generate: The tool calculates the total number of seconds and builds the new URL.
  6. Copy or test the link: Use the copy icon or select Go to Link to open the result in a new tab.

Timestamp calculation example

Suppose the relevant section begins at 7 minutes and 45 seconds:

  • 7 minutes × 60 seconds = 420 seconds
  • 420 + 45 seconds = 465 seconds
  • The generated link ends with &t=465

Original URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID

Timestamped URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID&t=465

YouTube also provides a native Start at option. On a supported video, select Share, enable Start at, enter a time such as 2:30 and copy the updated link. This workflow is documented in YouTube’s official sharing instructions.

Supported YouTube URL Format

The current YouTube Timestamp Link Generator requires a standard watch URL containing the following structure:

Supported:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID

The following formats are not currently accepted:

  • Shortened links: https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID
  • YouTube Shorts: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID
  • Embed URLs: https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID
  • Non-video YouTube pages: Channel, playlist-only and search-result URLs

If you copied a shortened or Shorts link, open the video in the regular YouTube watch page and copy the standard youtube.com/watch?v= URL from the browser address bar.

What happens to existing URL parameters?

The tool keeps the part of the URL before the first ampersand and removes the remaining parameters before adding the new timestamp. This prevents an old timestamp from being carried into the result, but it can also remove playlist information, tracking parameters and other settings.

Check the final link before sharing it if preserving a playlist or another URL option matters.

When Timestamped YouTube Links Are Useful

A timestamp link is handy whenever the viewer needs one moment rather than the entire video.

  • Tutorials: Link directly to the step that answers a specific question.
  • Lectures: Send students to a definition, example or assignment explanation.
  • Interviews: Share the beginning of one answer without asking someone to search through the conversation.
  • Product demonstrations: Point clients to a particular feature or workflow.
  • Technical support: Reference the moment when an error, fix or configuration appears.
  • Meeting notes: Add direct references to decisions or explanations in a recorded meeting.
  • Blog posts: Support a claim with the relevant section of a longer video.

A timestamp link does not guarantee higher engagement or retention. Its practical benefit is simpler navigation and clearer communication.

Timestamp Links vs YouTube Chapters

A timestamp link and a chapter marker solve related but different problems.

  • Timestamp link: Sends someone to one selected start time through a shareable URL.
  • YouTube chapter: Divides a video into labeled sections that viewers can navigate inside YouTube.

You can create several timestamp links for one video and arrange them as a manual table of contents. However, the generator does not publish chapters or modify the video description.

Start-Time Links vs Timestamped Embeds

This tool generates a standard YouTube watch link. It does not create an iframe or set an ending time.

YouTube embeds use a different parameter. An embedded player can use start=90 to begin at 1 minute and 30 seconds. YouTube also documents an end parameter for embedded players. These options are explained in the YouTube player parameter documentation.

If you need code for a website rather than a shareable watch link, use the YouTube Embed Code Generator. To remove an existing time parameter from a link, try the YouTube Timestamp Remover.

Limitations to Check Before Sharing

  • The video ID and video availability are not verified.
  • The tool does not check whether the entered time is within the video’s duration.
  • Entering a time beyond the end of a video may not produce the expected playback position.
  • Private, deleted, restricted or unavailable videos remain inaccessible to viewers without permission.
  • Shortened, Shorts and embed URLs must be converted to a standard watch URL first.
  • Playlist and other URL parameters may be removed from the generated result.
  • The link defines a start time only, not an ending time.

For an important lesson, report or client message, open the generated link once and confirm that it leads to the intended video and moment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the YouTube Timestamp Link Generator do?

It converts minutes and seconds into a total number of seconds and adds that value to a standard YouTube watch URL. The generated link directs viewers to the selected start time.

How do I use the YouTube Timestamp Link Generator?

Paste a standard youtube.com/watch?v= URL, enter the minutes and seconds, and click Generate. You can then copy the resulting link or open it in a new tab to test it.

Which YouTube URL format does the tool support?

It supports standard watch URLs containing youtube.com/watch?v=. The tool does not currently accept shortened, Shorts or embed URL formats.

Does the generator work with youtu.be links or YouTube Shorts?

No. The current version rejects youtu.be and youtube.com/shorts/ URLs. Open the video through its standard watch page and copy the youtube.com/watch?v= address before using the generator.

How are minutes and seconds converted into the timestamp?

The tool multiplies the entered minutes by 60 and adds the remaining seconds. For example, 2 minutes and 30 seconds becomes 150 seconds, so the generated URL ends with &t=150.

Does the tool verify the video or its duration?

No. It formats the URL without checking whether the video exists, is available to the viewer or is long enough to reach the selected time.

How do I manually add a timestamp to a YouTube watch link?

Add &t= followed by the start time in seconds. For example, add &t=90 to a standard watch URL to request a start time of 1 minute and 30 seconds.

What is the difference between ?t= and &t= in a YouTube link?

A question mark introduces the first parameter in a URL, while an ampersand adds another parameter. Standard YouTube watch URLs already contain ?v=VIDEO_ID, so this tool adds the time using &t=SECONDS.

Do timestamped YouTube links work on mobile devices?

The generated link can be opened on mobile, but whether it opens in the YouTube app or a browser depends on the viewer’s device and settings. Test important links before sharing them widely.

Can this generator create a YouTube link with an end time?

No. It creates a standard watch link with a start time only. Start and end parameters are available for certain YouTube embed-player configurations, but this tool does not generate them.
