UPI QR Code Generator
Create a browser-generated, open-amount payment QR using your UPI ID, payee name, and optional payment note or merchant category code.
Your Virtual Payment Address from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or your bank's UPI app.
Leave this blank unless your bank issued you a specific merchant category code.
upi://pay QR image — all payments are handled entirely by your own UPI app and bank. The UPI QR code generator turns your UPI ID and payee name into a scannable payment QR code. The person scanning the code enters the payment amount in their UPI app and authorizes the transaction using their own UPI PIN.
This is an open-amount generator. You can add an optional payment note or merchant category code, choose the QR size and error correction, and download the finished image as a PNG.
What Is a UPI QR Code Generator?
A UPI QR code generator creates a QR image containing a UPI payment URI. Compatible UPI apps can read this URI and use its information to begin a payment flow.
The QR code does not contain your bank account number, debit card details, UPI PIN, or account balance. It contains the UPI payment information entered into the generator, including your UPI ID, payee name, Indian rupee currency code, and any optional note or merchant category code.
NPCI describes UPI as an instant payment system that supports QR code and intent-based payments. However, this SanishTech tool is not a bank, payment processor, UPI app, merchant acquirer, or NPCI-affiliated QR issuer.
What the UPI QR Code Contains
The generator builds a payment URI beginning with upi://pay. The following parameters may be included:
- pa: The payee address, which is the UPI ID or Virtual Payment Address.
- pn: The payee name entered in the form.
- cu: The currency code, fixed as INR.
- tn: The optional payment note.
- mc: The optional merchant category code.
The amount parameter is not included. After scanning, the payer enters the payment amount inside the UPI app.
Required and Optional Fields
UPI ID
The UPI ID is required. It normally looks like name@bank, mobile@provider, or another Virtual Payment Address issued by a participating bank or UPI provider.
The generator checks whether the entry resembles a UPI ID, but it cannot contact your bank to confirm that the address exists, is active, or belongs to you. Copy the address from your own bank or UPI app instead of typing it from memory.
Payee Name
The payee name is also required and is added to the payment URI. Enter the person or business name associated with the receiving UPI account.
The entered name is not identity verification. The payer should rely on the recipient information resolved and displayed by their UPI app before authorizing payment.
Payment Note
The payment note is optional. It can describe the purpose of the payment, such as “Order 123,” “Consulting fee,” “Donation,” or “Monthly rent.” Keep it short because different UPI apps may display or handle notes differently.
Merchant Category Code
The merchant category code is optional and intended for registered merchants who have received a valid four-digit MCC from their bank, payment service provider, or merchant-acquiring partner.
Leave this field blank unless you know the correct assigned code. Do not guess an MCC or copy one from another business.
How to Use the UPI QR Code Generator
- Enter the UPI ID: Copy the active UPI ID from the receiving bank or UPI app.
- Enter the payee name: Use the name associated with the intended receiving account.
- Add a payment note: Enter a short description if it will help identify the purpose of the payment.
- Add an MCC if applicable: Registered merchants can enter an assigned four-digit merchant category code.
- Select the QR dimensions: Choose 200, 300, 400, 600, or 1000 pixels.
- Choose error correction: Select Low, Medium, Quartile, or High. High is selected initially.
- Keep the safe margin: Leave the white margin enabled unless your final design provides enough clear space around the QR code.
- Generate the QR code: Select Generate UPI QR Code.
- Scan-test it: Use your own UPI app and confirm the resolved recipient identity before printing or sharing the code.
- Download the PNG: Save the image after completing a controlled test payment when appropriate.
Open-Amount UPI QR Code
This tool creates an open-amount UPI QR code. It does not encode a fixed price. The payer enters the amount after scanning and can review the payment details before authorization.
An open-amount code is useful when the payable amount changes between transactions, including:
- Retail and kirana store counters.
- Freelance and professional services.
- Delivery and home-service payments.
- Rent and person-to-person payments.
- Donations where contributors choose the amount.
- Market stalls and street vendors.
- Tips and voluntary contributions.
Because the amount is not fixed, the recipient should verify the actual credit through their own bank or UPI app before treating an order or service as paid.
QR Size and Error-Correction Options
- QR sizes: 200, 300, 400, 600, and 1000 pixels.
- Error-correction levels: Low, Medium, Quartile, and High.
- Default error correction: High.
- Foreground color: Fixed black.
- Background color: Fixed white.
- Safe margin: Optional and enabled initially.
- Download format: PNG.
- Additional output: Copy Image when supported by the browser.
The selected pixel size applies to the QR symbol before the optional margin is added. When the margin is enabled, the final PNG canvas is larger than the selected dimensions.
A large pixel count does not automatically guarantee reliable printing. Scan-test the final image at its actual physical size, material, lighting, and expected viewing distance.
Does the Generator Verify a UPI ID?
No. The tool performs a syntax check to confirm that the text resembles a UPI ID. It does not query a bank, NPCI, or payment provider to check whether the address exists, is active, or belongs to the payee name entered.
A code can therefore be generated from a correctly formatted but inactive or incorrect UPI ID. Always scan the finished image with your own UPI app and verify the recipient identity shown by the app.
If the displayed recipient is unexpected, do not authorize a test payment or distribute the QR code. Recheck the UPI ID in the receiving account's official app.
UPI QR Code Safety Tips
A QR code makes payment initiation easier, but it does not remove the need to verify the recipient and transaction details.
- Scan-test before use: Confirm that your UPI app resolves the intended recipient.
- Check every character: One incorrect character can make the UPI ID invalid or point to an unintended address.
- Protect printed codes: Inspect public QR displays regularly to ensure that nobody has placed another sticker over them.
- Verify actual credit: Check your own bank or UPI app instead of trusting a screenshot or payment-success screen shown by the payer.
- Never share a UPI PIN: A UPI PIN is used to authorize outgoing transactions. It is not required to receive a normal payment.
- Avoid unknown QR codes: The RBI advises users not to scan payment QR codes received from unknown or untrusted sources.
For current consumer-safety guidance, refer to the Reserve Bank of India's QR safety information.
Does SanishTech Process the Payment?
No. SanishTech generates the QR image but does not initiate, authorize, receive, settle, confirm, refund, or reconcile a UPI transaction.
When someone scans the code, the payment flow is handled by the payer's UPI app, participating payment providers, and banks. Transaction limits, charges, account eligibility, refunds, disputes, and processing times depend on those providers and the applicable rules.
If your business requires merchant onboarding, settlement reports, payment confirmation, reconciliation, refund tools, or formal merchant support, use a merchant QR product issued by your bank or authorized payment provider.
Privacy and Browser Processing
The UPI QR code generator builds the URI and renders the QR image in your browser. The generator does not make a banking or UPI API request to create the PNG.
A UPI ID is meant to identify a payment destination, but it should still be shared thoughtfully. Do not enter your UPI PIN, OTP, debit card number, bank password, account balance, or other confidential banking information into this or any QR generator.
Static QR Codes and Expiry
The generated QR code is static. Its encoded UPI ID, payee name, currency, note, and merchant category code cannot be changed after download.
The image has no built-in expiry date. However, it will stop being useful if the encoded UPI ID is disabled, replaced, changed, or no longer supported by the receiving provider. Generate and distribute a new QR code whenever the payment address changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What information is required to create a UPI QR code?
The tool requires a UPI ID and payee name. A payment note and merchant category code are optional. It does not include a payment amount.
What UPI ID format does the generator accept?
It accepts a VPA-style value containing a name and handle separated by an at sign, such as name@bank. This is only a format check and does not confirm that the UPI ID exists or belongs to you.
Why is the payee name required?
The payee name is encoded in the pn parameter of the UPI payment URI. Use the name associated with the receiving account, but rely on the recipient identity shown by the payer's UPI app before authorizing payment.
Can I set a fixed payment amount?
No. This generator omits the amount parameter, so the payer enters the amount after scanning. It is designed for reusable, open-amount payment QR codes.
What is the merchant category code field?
The optional MCC field adds an mc parameter to the UPI URI. Leave it blank unless your bank or payment provider assigned a valid four-digit merchant category code. Do not guess one.
What file and QR sizes are available?
The tool exports a PNG. You can select 200, 300, 400, 600, or 1000 pixels, choose L, M, Q, or H error correction, and turn the safe white margin on or off.
Does the tool verify that my UPI ID is active?
No. It only checks whether the text resembles a UPI ID. Scan-test the QR code with your own UPI app and confirm the recipient identity before displaying or sharing it.
Will the QR code work with every UPI app?
It uses a standard upi://pay payment URI intended for compatible UPI apps. App behavior can differ, so test the code with the apps commonly used by your customers.
Does a UPI QR code expire?
The static QR image has no built-in expiry date. It will stop being useful if the encoded UPI ID is disabled, changed, or no longer supported by the receiving bank or payment provider.
Does SanishTech receive or process payments?
No. SanishTech only creates the QR image from the details you enter. Payment authorization, processing, settlement, refunds, limits, and disputes are handled by the payer's UPI app, participating banks, and payment providers.
