What Is a Coupon QR Code?

A coupon QR code gives customers a one-scan way to redeem a discount — either by opening your online store with the promo code already applied, or by simply displaying the code itself for use at checkout or in-store. This tool also designs a matching, ticket-style printable coupon around the code.

Everything is generated entirely in your browser. Your promo codes and store details are never uploaded anywhere.

How to Create a Coupon QR Code

  1. Enter your coupon details: discount headline, promo code, and optionally an expiration date and terms.
  2. Choose how it should redeem: a Shopify auto-apply link, a custom store link with the code appended as a URL parameter, or just show the code as plain text for in-store use.
  3. Pick a coupon style that matches your brand.
  4. Generate, scan-test, and download your coupon as a PNG, or use "Download QR Only" for just the bare code.

Which Redemption Mode Should I Use?

SituationUse This Mode
You run a Shopify storeShopify (Auto-Apply) — uses Shopify's own /discount/CODE link format, no app or plugin needed
Your store/theme supports a coupon URL parameter (WooCommerce with a suitable plugin, a custom cart, etc.)Custom Store Link — appends your code as a URL parameter you choose
You just want people to see and manually enter (or have a cashier scan) the codeShow Code Only (In-Store)

Auto-apply URL parameters aren't a universal web standard — whether one works depends on your specific store platform or theme actually reading that parameter and applying the discount. Shopify's /discount/ link format is a genuine, guaranteed exception since it's a native platform feature. If you're unsure whether your custom link will work, scan-test it yourself before printing anything.

Where to Use a Coupon QR Code

  • In-store signage, receipts, and packaging inserts.
  • Direct mail postcards and print ads.
  • Email newsletters and social media graphics.
  • Event booths and trade show handouts.
  • Loyalty and referral cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this coupon QR code generator free?

Yes. Generating and downloading a coupon QR code with this tool is completely free, with no account required.

Does this create the discount code in my store for me?

No. You'll need to create the actual discount/coupon code in your store's admin (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.) first. This tool only builds the link or code that tells the store which discount to apply.

Will the auto-apply link work with any online store?

The Shopify option uses a native Shopify feature and works on any Shopify store. The Custom Store Link option depends entirely on whether your platform reads and applies that URL parameter — always scan-test it yourself before printing or publishing.

Can I track how many times my coupon was scanned?

Not with this tool directly, since it's a static, one-time-generated code. If you need scan analytics, encode a link built with the UTM QR Code Generator so your redirects show up in your website analytics.

Is my information sent to a server?

No. The QR code and coupon design are generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript.
