Why the Country Code Matters
A tel: QR code works best when it encodes the number in full international format — a leading + followed by the country code, e.g. +15551234567. Without the country code, some phones will only dial the number correctly if the scanning device is already in the same country as the business. Since QR codes on packaging, signage, and business cards can be scanned by people anywhere, including the country code makes the code work reliably no matter where it's scanned.
