You can customize the QR code size, colors, error-correction level and white margin before downloading it as a PNG. Standard Google Drive and Dropbox links are automatically detected, allowing you to choose between browser viewing and direct download.
What Is a PDF QR Code?
A PDF QR code contains a URL that points to an online PDF document. When someone scans the code, their phone opens that URL and displays or downloads the document according to the device, browser and hosting settings.
The PDF file is not stored inside the QR pattern. Normal PDF documents are far too large for that. The code stores only the much shorter web address where the file can be accessed.
How to Create a QR Code for a PDF
The tool provides two ways to create your code. Choose the method that matches where you want the document stored.
Option 1: Upload a PDF
- Select the Upload a PDF File tab.
- Choose one PDF from your device. The maximum supported size is 10 MB.
- Choose the image size, error-correction level, colors and white margin.
- Click Generate PDF QR Code.
- The selected file is uploaded to SanishTech for hosting, and the returned URL is encoded in the QR code.
- Scan the result and verify that the document opens correctly.
- Download the QR code as a PNG or copy the image.
Option 2: Paste a PDF link
- Place the PDF on Google Drive, Dropbox, your website or another hosting service.
- Make sure the link can be opened by the intended audience.
- Select the Paste a Link tab and enter the full URL.
- For detected Drive or Dropbox links, choose View in Browser or Direct Download.
- Customize and generate the QR code.
- Use Open Link to test the encoded destination before downloading the PNG.
Uploading a PDF vs Pasting a Link
Use PDF upload when:
- You do not already have a public PDF link.
- The document is no larger than 10 MB.
- You are comfortable storing the file on SanishTech.
- The document does not contain confidential or restricted information.
Use a hosted link when:
- You want to keep control of the original PDF.
- The file is already on your website, Drive or Dropbox.
- You may need to remove or update access later.
- Your organization has specific document-storage requirements.
Using your own hosting is the safer choice for business documents that require controlled retention, access management or regular updates.
Important Information About Uploaded PDFs
When you use the upload option, the file is sent to SanishTech so it can be hosted at the URL encoded in the QR code. Anyone who obtains that URL may be able to open the document.
Do not upload medical records, identification documents, financial files, confidential contracts, private customer information or other sensitive material. A difficult-to-guess URL is not the same as password protection or access control.

Google Drive and Dropbox Link Detection
The PDF QR Code Generator recognizes standard Google Drive and Dropbox share links. When one is detected, the tool displays two possible scan behaviors.
View in Browser
This option formats the link for viewing or previewing the document. It is usually the better choice for brochures, menus, reports, portfolios and other PDFs people may want to inspect before saving.
Direct Download
This option formats the detected Drive or Dropbox link to request a file download. It can be useful for forms, tickets, manuals and documents intended for offline use.
The selected behavior is a request to the hosting platform. The final result may still vary by browser, device, sign-in state and provider settings. Always test the finished code on more than one phone.
How to Make a Google Drive PDF Publicly Accessible
- Upload the PDF to Google Drive.
- Open the file's sharing settings.
- Under General access, choose Anyone with the link.
- Select Viewer unless recipients need additional permissions.
- Copy the original Drive share link.
- Test it in a private browser window before generating the QR code.
If the link asks you to sign in or request access in a private window, people scanning the QR code are likely to see the same restriction.
Is This a Static or Dynamic PDF QR Code?
The tool creates a static QR code. The final PDF URL is permanently encoded in the QR pattern and cannot be edited through SanishTech after generation.
A static QR code can still lead to updated content when you replace or edit the PDF while preserving exactly the same public URL. If the URL changes, the existing QR code continues to point to the previous address.
The upload mode does not currently provide a replace-file feature. Uploading a new PDF produces a new hosted URL, which means you must generate and distribute a new QR code.
PDF QR Code Customization Options
- Image size: choose 200, 300, 400, 600 or 1,000 pixels.
- Error correction: select Low, Medium, Quartile or High.
- Foreground color: choose the color of the QR pattern.
- Background color: select the color behind the pattern.
- White margin: add a quiet zone around the code for clearer separation.
Strong contrast matters more than fancy colors. A dark pattern on a light background is generally easier for phone cameras to recognize. Keep the white margin enabled for most printed uses.

Printing and Testing Tips
- Use a larger PNG for signs, posters and packaging.
- Keep sufficient empty space around the QR code.
- Do not stretch, crop or cover any part of the pattern.
- Avoid low-contrast color combinations.
- Compress large PDFs so they load faster on mobile connections.
- Test the hosted PDF link without being signed in.
- Scan the final printed sample with Android and iPhone devices.
- Recheck important printed QR codes periodically.

Yes. Paste the original share link and ensure its permissions allow anyone with the link to view the PDF. The tool detects standard Drive and Dropbox URLs and can format them for browser viewing or direct download.
What is the difference between View in Browser and Direct Download?
View in Browser points scanners to a preview-style URL, while Direct Download formats a detected Google Drive or Dropbox link to request a download. The final behavior can still vary by browser, device and hosting platform.
Does a PDF QR code expire?
The generated QR pattern is static and has no built-in expiry date. It will work only while the encoded PDF URL remains available. SanishTech's interface says uploaded files are retained indefinitely, but you should keep a backup and periodically test important printed codes.
Can I replace the PDF without reprinting the QR code?
Only if you can update the file while keeping exactly the same public URL. The upload mode does not provide a replace-file control, so uploading a new file creates a new hosted link and requires a new QR code.
Can I customize and download the PDF QR code?
