The Bulk Canonical Checker checks up to 200 valid URLs in one run. It reports the canonical URL found for each page, the final destination after redirects, page and canonical-target HTTP responses, and a diagnostic flag such as GOOD, MISSING, MULTIPLE or CROSS_DOMAIN.
Enter one complete URL per line, including https:// or http://. The checker removes duplicate normalized URLs and ignores text it cannot parse as an absolute URL. No account or login is required.
This tool examines the canonical information returned by the requested pages. It cannot show which URL Google ultimately selected as canonical. Google may choose a different representative URL even when a page publishes a rel="canonical" annotation.
What the Bulk Canonical Checker Reports
Every processed URL is shown in a results table containing five columns:
- URL: The normalized URL submitted for analysis.
- Canonical Found: The canonical destination detected for the page, when available.
- Flag: The tool's diagnostic classification for the result.
- Final URL + HTTP: The destination reached after following redirects and its returned HTTP status.
- Target HTTP: The response obtained when checking the detected canonical destination.
Results are displayed 25 rows at a time. Prev and Next controls appear when an analysis contains more than 25 results.
How to Check Canonical Tags in Bulk
- Collect the complete URLs you want to audit.
- Paste one URL per line into the input field.
- Confirm that every entry includes its HTTP or HTTPS protocol.
- Select Analyze.
- Review the detected canonical, issue flag and both HTTP columns.
- Use Prev and Next when the report has more than 25 results.
- Select Export CSV if you need the findings outside the browser.
The Bulk Canonical Checker accepts up to 200 valid, unique URLs per run. Split larger lists into separate batches and retain the original list so you can confirm that every intended URL was processed.
Understanding the Canonical Checker Flags
GOOD
The page passed the tool's current canonical checks. Treat this as a positive diagnostic result, not proof that Google selected the same canonical. A URL containing parameters may still receive GOOD when it points to a clean canonical version.
MISSING
No canonical destination was returned for the page. Check the Final URL + HTTP value before assuming this is only a missing-tag issue. A failed, blocked or non-200 page response may prevent the checker from retrieving normal HTML.
MULTIPLE
More than one canonical declaration was detected. Inspect the page source and HTTP response headers to identify conflicting destinations. Google recommends choosing one canonical implementation method because combining methods can introduce conflicting signals.
CROSS_DOMAIN
The canonical points to a different hostname. This can be intentional, but it deserves review. Confirm that the other domain contains the intended representative version and that the cross-domain destination was not inserted accidentally.
LOOP
The checker detected a canonical chain that returns to an earlier URL. Review every URL in the relationship and select one clear representative destination instead of making pages point in a circle.
NON200_TARGET
The canonical destination did not return a 200 OK response during the check. The target may redirect, be unavailable, return an error or block the request. Verify the destination independently before changing the canonical.
REDIRECT_CONFLICT
The page's redirect destination and canonical signal appear to disagree. For example, a URL may redirect to one page while publishing or inheriting a canonical pointing somewhere else. Align these signals when the difference is unintended.
ERROR
The request encountered a network, timeout or access problem. This does not automatically mean the page is broken for ordinary visitors or search-engine crawlers. Retry the URL and inspect it separately.
How the Tool Handles Your URL List
Before analysis, the interface parses and normalizes the submitted lines. This produces several behaviours worth knowing:
- Blank lines are removed.
- Invalid text is ignored.
- A domain without
http://orhttps://is not treated as a valid URL. - Duplicate normalized URLs are processed only once.
- Only the first 200 valid, unique URLs are included.
- The current interface does not identify every ignored or omitted line.
If the field contains no valid URL, the tool displays “Add at least one valid URL.” When this happens after a successful check, the earlier table may remain visible. Treat the error as the latest result and do not export the previous report by mistake.
What GOOD Does and Does Not Confirm
GOOD is the Bulk Canonical Checker's own audit verdict. It does not confirm that:
- Google selected the same URL as canonical.
- The submitted page and canonical target have identical content.
- The page is indexed.
- The canonical is supported by internal links and sitemap signals.
- The page has no other crawling or indexing problems.
Use Google Search Console's URL Inspection tool when you need to compare the user-declared canonical with Google's selected canonical. Google's canonicalization troubleshooting guidance recommends URL Inspection for this purpose.
Does Every Page Need a Canonical Tag?
A missing canonical is not automatically an SEO failure. Google can choose a representative URL when a site does not declare one. However, a self-referencing canonical can make your preferred URL clearer when the same content may be accessible through parameters, protocol variations, alternate routes or other duplicate URLs.
Google's canonical URL documentation recommends including a self-referencing canonical on the preferred page. It also recommends absolute URLs and consistent signals across canonical annotations, redirects, sitemaps and internal links.
Canonical URL Best Practices
- Use a complete absolute URL in the canonical annotation.
- Place an HTML canonical link inside the valid
<head>section. - Use a self-referencing canonical on the preferred HTML page.
- Point internal links toward the preferred canonical URL.
- Include preferred canonical URLs in the XML sitemap.
- Avoid declaring different canonical destinations through different methods.
- Use a redirect when a duplicate URL should no longer remain accessible.
- Do not use robots.txt or Google's URL removal tool as a canonicalization method.
Canonical annotations are signals rather than commands. Google considers other information, including redirects, HTTPS, sitemap inclusion, internal linking and page similarity, when selecting a representative URL.
Canonical Tag vs Redirect
A redirect sends users and crawlers from one URL to another. Use it when the old or duplicate URL should no longer remain available as a separate page.
A canonical annotation leaves the submitted page accessible while indicating a preferred representative URL to search engines. This is useful when duplicate or closely similar versions must remain available for users, filtering, tracking or publishing requirements.

Current Tool Limitations
- A maximum of 200 valid, unique URLs is processed per run.
- Entries after the first 200 are omitted without an individual warning.
- Invalid lines and duplicates are not listed in the final report.
- Results are displayed 25 rows per page.
- The summary counts GOOD, MISSING and MULTIPLE results but does not separately total every other flag.
- Remote websites may block, delay or return different responses to the checker.
- A MISSING result can appear alongside a non-200 page response.
- The verdict does not show Google's selected canonical.
- Previous results can remain visible after a later invalid submission.
- The current CSV structure defines a Notes header without a matching result value.
- The tool does not save audit history or monitor URLs automatically.

What does the GOOD result mean?
GOOD means the page passed the tool's current canonical checks. It does not prove that Google selected the same canonical URL, and it is not always a literal match between the submitted URL and canonical URL.
Why were some submitted lines omitted?
The tool ignores text that is not a valid absolute URL, removes duplicate normalized URLs, and limits a run to 200 valid entries. The current interface does not list each ignored or omitted line.
Can I export the canonical results?
Yes. After a successful analysis, the Export CSV button becomes available. The report includes the URLs, canonical results, flags, final destinations, and HTTP information returned by the checker.
What is a canonical URL?
A canonical URL is the representative URL chosen for a group of duplicate or very similar pages. A rel="canonical" annotation lets a site indicate its preferred URL, but Google may select another URL.
Does a missing canonical always cause an SEO problem?
